inneach

£120.00

Scots Gaelic for: ‘texture’.

This sculptured piece was unearthed in Mexico in 2023 using small batch slips and local Oaxacan clay. I threw her using a simple modern wheel in a funky studio called Espacio Comal in Oaxaca City. After throwing I worked into the clay to add texture then applied colourful, chalky slips. When I returned home to Scotland I applied pure-beeswax to fix the slips and deepen the colour.

I only made a handful of pieces during my time in Oaxaca and each is wildly different due to the nature of the original clay (barro) and the techniques I played with thereafter. ‘inneach’ was made using a yellow clay found high up the mountain near Tlacolula, which turns a deep red when fired.

Approximate measurements:  0.61lb // W:9.5cm // H:10cm

The beeswax itself was made by the bees Dad keeps at home and I learnt from Dad how to ‘process’ it from start to finish before painting onto this piece (highly encourage you take a look at the instagram post taking you through the steps!)

Please note that ceramic items must be washed lovingly by hand.
