Scots Gaelic for: ‘purify’.

This organic jug was unearthed in Mexico in 2023 using small batch slips and local Oaxacan clay. I hand-built her in a wonderful little studio called Alquima Taller in Oaxaca City. I only made a handful of pieces during my time in Oaxaca and each is wildly different due to the nature of the original clay (barro) and the techniques I played with thereafter.

This vessel contains much personal grounding when I reflect on the ebbs and flows of its creation - hiding then resurfacing, peacocking then calming - and its final texture, imperfections and weight. I hope to work more with sandy glazes or clays and even explore making my own textures from foraging in the environment around me. It will be a way of further connecting with mamma earth but also these "impurities" contain a curiosity and will no doubt teach me many lessons. It's this same compassionate curiosity that I turn to my own healing time and time again, reminding myself that it's my relationship with dis-ease that matters not the manifestation itself, and within this state of being there is inner peace to be found, nurtured and cherished.

“There is no mystery toThe miracle of self-healing;It is courage, commitmentAnd consistency that move usFrom misery to inner peace" ~ Yung Pueblo
