Scots Gaelic for: ‘to question’.

This ragged bowl was unearthed in 2020 using small batch glazes that I splattered using both a toothbrush and my fingers. She was made using local Kenyan clay and a simple modern wheel in Nairobi, Kenya in a wonderful little studio called Tope on the outskirts of the city. A place of refuge from the bustle during a personal journey of learning to befriend and appreciate stillness.

This piece was inspired by the following Rainer Maria Rilke quote: “Believe me: life is right whatever happens…Doubts can become good quality if you school them…request arguments…they will be amongst your best workers” . At first, everything can seem ragged, but life is always happening for us not too us. The organism which resembles this for me is lichen, hence the chosen colours and glaze effect.
