barail

£65.00

Scots Gaelic for: ‘assumption’.

‘barail’ was unearthed in 2021 using small batch glazes and local Kenyan clay. I threw her using a simple modern wheel in Nairobi, Kenya in a wonderful Arts Centre in the thick of the city and then glazed at the equally wonderful Tope Pottery on the outskirts.

Part of my portfolio of works titled ‘embracing vulnerability’. One of the reasons I have always appreciated being Scottish, is I find that people - on the whole - tend not to assume things about one and other and are incredibly accepting as a result. I incorporated wax resist into this piece to symbolise my personal quest of resisting the urge to assume and instead stay open and heart centred whilst living in Nairobi. She’s a (im)perfect little jug, a friend for propogated plants or a decorative wonder in her own right - you pick!

Approximate measurements: 0.84lb // H:11cm // W:768cm (widest point)
